Welcome to my blog!

I'm an acupuncturist, teacher, fertility specialist, patient centered advocate, mom, activist and more! This blog is a place for me to write down the things on my mind, the things I discuss over and over, and the things I find helpful, interesting, and inspiring all in the hope that someone else out there, maybe YOU, will find some of these things to be helpful, interesting and inspiring too. I love learning, I love sharing, and I am passionate about helping others lead more balanced, fertile, and healthy lives - while trying to do the same myself. So here goes... The Blogging Life...

Resources: Fun Books & Movies

Much of what I work on with my patients is helping them to find balance in their lives. Often times they believe that in order to achieve their goals (which in many cases is to get pregnant) they have to put everything normal and fun in their lives on hold. The following is a list of books and movies to help get back in the moment and enjoy life right now--not because you are taking a break from working on your goals, but because enjoying life is a part of achieving your goals! Please share your own in the comments section and enjoy finding some new favorites...

Books (disclaimer! I have to admit, I like my books a bit on the dark side--and I'm not going to list those here--this list is definitely lacking...please add more!!!):

Eat, Pray, Love: Author Elizabeth Gilbert decides to listen to her heart and spend one year abroad--four months in Italy eating and learning to speak italian, four months in and Indian ashram learning to be quiet and meditate and four months in Indonesia... http://www.elizabethgilbert.com/eatpraylove.htm

Anything Jane Austin

The Harry Potter Books: I know I know...you probably already either love them or have sworn to never read them. I happen to be in love with each and every one of them :)

The 1995 5 hour version of Pride & Prejudice: Is it wrong that I know most of the lines of a five hour movie? This is my favorite ever movie, so romantic and true to the novel (unlike some newer versions). Mr. Darcy...need I say more???

This french movie is so full of imagination and wonder. Beautiful visually and thematically.

Chocolate, romance, Johnny Depp in no particular order.

The Shop around the Corner:
The original movie that "you've got mail" was based on...

Little Women
The bonds of sisterhood, growing up, love, friendship...all the best of everything sappy!

Okay...I'll stop here. Please add more and I will too...

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 5 hour version of Pride & Prejudice. A couple of years ago, in a period of 2 months, one of my closest friends was watching this version of P&P 2-3 times a week, thats 15 hours a week! Needless to say I thought she was a little crazy, until I watched the movie and fell in love with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth and all the characters myself. I then went on to read the book and soon discovered that one of my other favorite movies, Bridget Jones' Diary, was based on Pride and Prejudice. I love Colin Firth in both the 5 hour version of P&P as Mr. Darcy and also as Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary. In my eyes there is no other Mr. Darcy besides Colin. Mr. Darcy in the 2005, 2 hour version with Keira Knightley does not even come close to comparing to Colin Firth.

I couldn't agree more on the Mr. Darcy issue. Colin Firth is the only Mr. D for me! Although I've never watched it 3 times in one week I have watched it about once every 2-4 months since 1999...is that crazy?! BTW there is a 10th anniversary edition out now with an extra bonus disc for all you fans out there:

Oh, and if you like the P&P/Bridget Jones adaptation you might like to compare and contrast Emma and Clueless they are both based on Jane Austen's Novel Emma...

I also must say Sense & Sensibility (directed by Ang Lee) is also an incredible movie version of a Jane Austen Novel! Okay...I think I have to go watch one of these :)
